American was the bastard, the illegitimate daughter of the mother country whose legs was then spread around the world, and a rapist known as freedom. Free-Doom. Democracy, liberty, and justice were revolutionary codenames that proceeded the bubbling, bubbling bubbling in the mother countries crotch. – Gil Scott Heron

This is only one of many samplings that Kanye West has used in the past and what he will most likely use in the future. In the song Lost in the World on his most recent solo album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy he uses so many different ways of sampling. First of all, going into the definition of sampling is borrowing different pieces of existing recorded music and making them sound more individualized and new aged. Sampling doesn’t just come from Hip Hop like most people may think all though it was adopted into the Hip Hop culture first that we know of. But sampling definitely can and does come from many different cultures here in the United States and across the waters such as places like Africa and Japan. In class we often discuss many different elements of Hip Hop but this week about the art of DJing (Turntabalism)  and sampling was very interesting to me because often you know about Hip Hop DJs and you like what you here but it stops there, I personally have never read up on turntabling but now I can say I will because I have gained interest. But in this lecture I found the sampling discussion very interesting. For the specific reason a lot of artist has been using sampling such as Dipset and Cam’Ron , Jay Z, UGK; I don’t know who it is singing but it’s a sample from old school blues singing, for example Jay Z- Song Cry and UGK- International Players Anthem . This was perfect to incorporate “Lost in the World” – Kanye West because he samples from African drums and chants and as I’ve posted about a speech of encouraging words of how one views the world. Now gaining knowledge, this can expand your mind and notice a lot more when some artist is using new flavor. It’s your chance to research and dig in to where that artist is sampling from.
